on saturday (9/20/08), i got to sell at my first street art/craft fair which was really awesome. my friend, grace, showed up a little later with the tables and her flower paintings so i set up anyhow right on the street. i'll post the photos tonight.
it was so nice to see little kids (+adults) play with my finger puppets! chaffee was right - "everybody needs a fingerpuppet." !!!! two little boys played with some puppets which pleasantly surprised me since my puppets have a feminine quality to them. but toys are toys and they're fairly genderless...adult women liked them too! i just want a big fat sign that says "please touch!" i hate when you can't touch the things you want to buy or art/crafts that you're checking out. that's another thing to work on...made out of cardboard and other recycable materials?
grace's mom, jody suggested i sell things on http://www.etsy.com/ and i think now is the time! i was looking at their site - oh god i love cute! i don't know what it is but i can't help it. and now that i have a "website" i feel a lot better about it. but maybe i won't get cards printed up? maybe i'll just make them all by hand? hmm...
my friend zawadi and my cousin alex both commissioned pieces! so excited! and now i'm ready to ship off their creations. i always just made gifts for the xmas, birthdays, etc. i'm really having fun making specialized, sometimes really weird stuff as commissions. alex's finger puppet "hermes" looks almost exactly like the one we drew together...and definately as weird and quirky as he is! ;) it's really fun to be a part of the all these different creative steps and it's also a nice little challenge.
anyhow a big thank you to my coworker alex for telling me about blogging/websites...because they're free and i'm all about free. anyone heard of freecycle? 2/3 of our furniture is from freecycle.
